Lead Concept Artist

Role Overview:
We are looking for a highly experienced artist that has mastery of the craft. This role involves leading by example, approx 50% artist vs. 50% manager.
The Lead Artist leads and mentors the concept art team of 10. They are expected to consistently deliver innovative/high quality ideas through their team, as well as inspire through their own artwork.
The lead artist works with the creative/production managers and clients to interpret and achieve the client’s creative goals as well and input into the cost/time estimation process.

This person would be a champion of the company and a great team motivator.

Functional Responsibilities:
• Liaising with internal management team and clients to understand project creative needs in collaboration with the client/management team
• Leading the art team to hit the creative requirements for each project
• Ensuring the team adhere to the highest quality standards in the allocated time
• Finding solutions to creative issues
• Helping to define the style of new projects
• Creating AAA concept art for all areas of concept art, across a broad range of styles, media and timescales
• Helping to establish training needs and practices for the artists

Skills Required:
• Expert with Photoshop, and a high capacity to learn new tools
• Strong background in traditional art skills
• Anatomical knowledge
• Architectural knowledge
• Mastered knowledge light, form, tone, palette
• Must be able to paint/sketch at speed
• Time management
• People management
• Excellent communicator
• Pragmatic problem solver
• Ability to give feedback and take feedback in an open and honest way

Skills/Attributes Considered a Bonus:
• Experience with 3-D software (Z-Brush, Max or Maya etc) a plus
• Good knowledge videogames and films
• Established name in the industry

Education and Experience:
• A portfolio that demonstrates an industry leading standard of art is essential
• Several years experience as Art Director/Lead/Senior concept Artist on AAA games and films
• Experience of giving professional art training is desirable

Person Specification:
In addition to having leading artistic ability, the role requires both leading and working as part of a team. Training and guiding more junior artists, so enthusiasm and good communication skills are essential.

- Creation of Flash-based symbols with combined import of Photoshop/Illustrator assets
- Animation to support UI concepts
- User Interface and Heads Up Display design including any related documentation


Skills Required:
- A strong portfolio demonstrating experience in User Interface, Graphic Design and Motion Graphics.
- Must have a good working knowledge of software including Photoshop, After Effects, Flash, Illustrator, as well as a high capacity to learn new tools
- Must have a good working knowledge of web-based user interaction and presentation
- Solid understanding of layout design and typography
- Must be able to optimise graphical content efficiently
- Time management
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely in verbal, written and visual forms
- Ability to demonstrate creative concepts and take art direction

Skills Considered a Bonus:
- Web design experience including .css, JavaScript, Actionscript and Wordpress.
